OSCAR DE LA RENTA – EXCLUSIVE FALL/WINTER '13 CHILDRENSWEAR TRUNKSHOW ON MODAOPERANDI.COM

oscar.1

My love for all things Oscar de la Renta is well known to my friends; I myself have many beautiful pieces from Oscar’s heavenly collections and know they shall remain with me for many years to come, such is the timelessness of everything the house creates.

Astor, my son, is now 8 months old (a very healthy, somewhat larger than average 8 month old!) and I have been pleasantly surprised to find that much of his wardrobe is a mix of Oscar de la Renta’s exquisite children’s collection. Without consciously considering just which pieces are building this little gentleman’s wardrobe, I have filled his daily looks with more Oscar than any other designer. I now hope that baby two – my last – will be a boy so he may inherit this classic, chic collection…

Another love when it comes to clothing for both myself and Astor is ModaOperandi.com, a site that I have previously reviewed and shall continue to show my adoration for due to its unique approach and of course, the fact that the site gets many of the designer exclusives.

With all things Oscar very much in mind, ModaOperandi.com currently has the Fall/Winter 2013 Oscar de la Renta childrenswear trunkshow exclusive on their site until May 6th. There really could be no better place to shop for a perfect Oscar de la Renta ensemble for your own little one…

MIKI HOUSE – INCREDIBLE CHILDREN'S LABEL, NOW STOCKED EXCLUSIVELY AT HARRODS

MIKI.1

Even before Astor was born, I had visions of him dressed head to toe in neutral tones, delicate linen and cashmere. Then Miki House came along.

Brought to London by the incredibly stylish (and incredibly lovely) Nadege Gallas to be stocked exclusively at Harrods, the bold, bright beautiful designs of this leading Japanese label have found their way firmly into Astor’s closets.

Each piece that Miki House produces is unique in that they are hand embroidered with meticulous detail; from the signature bears on their t-shirts to the cool plaid shirts and adorable dresses, you can see that this brand prides itself on pieces so well made that they can be passed down to younger children to enjoy.

MIKI.2
The reason for my earlier comment, that I only wanted to dress Astor in neutrals, is that I find brightly coloured clothing on children generally has the unfortunate result of looking cheap, but there is something about Miki House that sets it apart from other labels and you can see the superb quality in the collection.

MIKI.3

My personal favourites from my time spent perusing the Miki House rails in Harrods’ exquisite children’s department were the bold plaid shirt in a super soft cotton, the little boots for the littlest of people and the brightest yellow bear cap (in my opinion the most amazing piece for this season!)

Miki House is available now, stocked exclusively at Harrods.

MISSONI CHILDREN'S CLOTHING

missoni.kids

I think it is safe to say that if I had a daughter, she would be dressed exclusively in Missoni.

In the past few years I have come to love Missoni – not that I ever didn’t like Missoni, but for me and my love of black clothing, I couldn’t see how these beautiful bright prints would ever be a part of my collection.

Opening my closet doors now is a whole new experience; no longer endless rails of identical black (and occasional navy) shapes, there are now bold prints on view from this most luxurious label.

Having recently viewed the Fall/Winter ’13 collection of childrenswear at a press appointment, I felt an overwhelming urge to head to the Missoni store and buy a few tiny Missoni signature print babygrows and jackets – perhaps if baby number two (and my last) is not a girl, then I could persuade all around me that the pieces truly are unisex?

LOMAX – INTENSE TRAINING TO REMOVE THE STUBBORN REMAINING BABY WEIGHT

lomax

Not the stiff environment I had envisaged, the entrance of Lomax leads into a fresh, bright cafe with the most healthy looking offerings I have ever seen. With friendly faces scattered about the place and an overwhelming feeling that all around me wouldn’t flinch if asked to drop for 80 press ups (both trainers and clients), this surprisingly didn’t cause anxiety, which can only have been credited to the fact that everyone is just so damn nice in there.

My time at Lomax was to be a week of intense training with their RedCarpetReady plan; two hours a day consisting of a RealRyder spinning class (the bikes move with your body, hence the word ‘real’ in the title) and personal training session with one of Lomax’s leading trainers.

My Red Carpet Ready plan had been discussed prior to my arrival with Hilary, who is easily the most athletic, sculpted female trainer on earth – imagine Madonna at the height of her workout obsession, only far more attractive. Initially intimidated by the entire team due to their physiques, you very quickly come to realise it’s like one big (unreasonably fit) family and they guide you rather than push you beyond your limits.

Hilary was going to ensure I truly was ‘red carpet ready’ within the 7 days allotted for my fitness and nutrition plan; she could not have worked me harder, but somehow (and I am still not sure how) my time with her was enjoyable and as such I didn’t actually notice she was working my body harder than I would have thought possible.

A morning start in the spinning studio went from dread (day 1) to wanting the class to extend to more time (day 5) and just writing this is making me long for those intense bike sessions.

A break before my personal training session each day saw my chance to sample a number of the creative (and unreasonably delicious) smoothies at their juice bar – not to mention the nutritionally considered healthy food. My food for the week was provided by the Lomax experts and without question, this played a major part in the results I saw at the end of my 7 days.

Hilary worked my body each day with varying routines, while concentrating on reducing the inches in areas I had mentioned needed to be gone by the time my shorts were brought out of hiding. Boxing proved to be a personal favourite (who knew?!), perhaps made less severe in appearance by the bubblegum pink boxing gloves I was given to wear.

I am now two days passed my intense training week with Lomax, I am longing for my morning spinning session and clambering to be back in the studio executing 40 burpies (yes, I had to be educated in the terminology, but seem to have grasped it now.)

I exited the gym 7 days after my initial training session inches smaller than when I had entered. There are diets, detoxes and other plans to lose weight, but it’s only training that gets you true and lasting results – Lomax just proved this point.

UNSEEN FROM THE ARCHIVES – STELLA MCCARTNEY

pv.stella.mccartney

When entering my third trimester, it didn’t feel quite correct to wear a dress above my knees to an industry event; pre-pregnancy, I would have called upon PR friends to send the latest Vuitton or Balmain mini’s for such an occasion, but floor length frocks, such as this divine Stella McCartney creation, made me feel far more secure (there’s something about wanting to protect the little person inside of you) and certainly more elegant.

Almost eight months have passed since my son was born and the rails are once more lined with dresses of varying lengths, although, and perhaps this is the new mother in me speaking, I seem to be veering towards the longer lengths again.

Not only have I introduced colour into my wardrobe (not that you would guess from the accompanying image), but now consider floor length dresses when selecting a look for the fashion events. Having a baby really was a life changing experience.

KIDSLEY – NURSERY ADDITIONS

kidsley.mat.bag

Now Astor is sitting, attempting to crawl and being generally adventurous, it was time to find him an adorable little play set for his special place in our sitting room. Astor’s nursery furniture is neutral and elegant, but for the sitting room, I wanted a touch of colour.

For some time I searched for a set with a design somewhere between classic and contemporary and that also had the all important factor of being comfortable enough for my little boy to sit on and play with his toys (surprisingly, I have been told by fellow moms that many play mats are not particularly comfortable for children).

I recently worked with the amazing team at AlexandAlexa.com for Global Kids Fashion Week and since discovering this incredible children’s site, I have been buying Astor many new and wonderful toys, nursery additions and clothing – one such brand that has proven to be a firm favourite is Kidsley.

Kidsley design fabulous children’s nursery (or sitting room in my case) additions, such as the play mat and toy bag featured. Also on my wish list for Astor is the adorable Play House, but I think for now I shall be halting the AlexandAlexa deliveries (at least until my son is walking!)

ENERGY HEALING AT ANAMAYA SPA

Thailand.InfinityPool

Skeptical, but keen, I entered the Anamaya spa in London’s Kensington not knowing what to expect from a man affectionately known as the ‘Buddha on a Bike’.

Paul Lennard is an energy healer. You too? Yes, although the title is pretty clear, I was quite unsure just what to expect. A waving of arms? Chanting perhaps? But that would be my ignorance talking…

My hour with Paul was life-changing; not that he completely released my niggles about the past or certain personal areas I know I could work on, but he brought them to the surface and I left knowing so clearly where I needed to concentrate to clear past issues (and yes, we all have an issue or two).

I am still taken aback, I have continued to tell my friends about my exceptional experience and the session with Paul has been on my mind (in a positive way) since I left Anamaya.

To explain my session would not do Paul’s work justice – the ‘experience like no other’ is how I have been retelling the tale of this remarking hour and needless to say, my skepticism has been firmly put in its place.

VESTIAIRE COLLECTIVE – LUXURY RESALE SITE FOR MOMS AND BABIES

Vestiaire

During my pregnancy, I bought a number of pieces that I will never wear again; a floor length Lanvin creation, Marant boots and a Chanel bag that really isn’t my style (but oh how it made me feel better on a day when I was feeling as though I would never be able to don my delicate Choo’s again…)

Now Astor is 7 months old and his own collection of clothing is expanding at an alarming pace, space is most certainly an issue, especially as I can now fit back into my pre-pregnancy clothing and shall be retrieving my most treasured looks from storage in the coming weeks.

A site that could not have been recommended to me by fellow fashion moms at a more opportune time was upscale resale site Vestiaire Collective.

When searching the elegant pages of the Vestiaire Collective website, you would never know that these (far less than store price) pieces were unwanted items from only the most exclusive sellers. For the baby/child there could not be a greater selection of only the most sought-after labels (my recent Bonpoint and Nanos purchases being a highlight) and for deserved mommy shopping, the most dreamy Balenciaga gown, collectable YSL heels and every other label you could possibly wish to find.

Needless to say my Lanvin, Marant and Chanel pieces will soon be for sale on the site, giving me more reason to head back online and buy other seller’s pristine unwanted collections!

CAROL JOY LONDON – LUXURY DIAMOND FACIAL TREATMENT

caroljoy

The Carol Joy Spa at the Dorchester Hotel is classic, traditional and almost old fashioned, which is exactly why I loved my recent experience there! Too many spas are trying too hard to be the ultimate in cool and it feels somewhat stiff, borderline clinical and almost to the point where I cannot relax for fear of judgement.

I opted for the celebrated ‘Carol Joy Diamond Facial Treatment’, which did not fail to deliver the purely indulgent experience I was hoping for; the room was relaxing, the facial exceptional, but again, quite traditional. I say traditional, but with this I am referring to how I would imagine 1950’s Hollywood to be – all-consuming luxury.

Carol Joy is bringing back traditional spa experiences without the need to play a part as a client, you can just be yourself. Heaven.

UNSEEN FROM THE ARCHIVES – RICK OWENS – ALAIA – YSL

pv.look.rick.alaia.ysl

Looking back to last year and the beginning of Fall, for me it was a welcome return to jackets, layering and cashmere – pregnancy does not lend itself well to the heat!

With every change of season there is always an indulgence item and for Fall it had to be this dramatic Rick Owens jacket with its statement collar; such a great piece and I wore it long after my son was born.

With most items I bought throughout my 9 month term, I wore clothing just a size larger than those I donned pre-pregnancy, but chose dresses that would grow with me (the Alaia creations with the exceptional stretch fabric) or skirts that could be worn above my bump with a sleek cashmere sweater. With jackets, such as this divine Rick Owens one, buying your pre-pregnancy size (should your new found size allow) is preferable as one thing sure to ruin a sleek silhouette is a clearly-too-large jacket.
